Let’s talk about cheating in game development.
More and more game studios add erotic, and sometimes sexy scenes to their games. I think that it’s no secret to anyone why they do this?
Producers are ruthless – if eroticism in the game adds popularity and attracts more content, then the studio will earn more money on its product and become more successful.
And I’m not talking about games for the audience 18+, but about the gaming audience as a whole.
The public seems to be against the sextistic attitude towards women and the corruption of adolescents, but despite the general outrage and struggle, the boobs are getting bigger and bigger!
A great example is the series of games “Soulcalibur”, for consoles Xbox 360 and Dreamcast and for Android and iOS operating systems, from the Japanese studio “Project Soul”:
How beauty changes gaming industry
Interesting is the fact that this series of games received a lot of high ratings and good reviews, both from critics and from players.
Only for the Dreamcast console was sold more than one million copies of the game! At the E3 contest, she was awarded a prize and in 1999 won first place in the category “Best Fighting”. On the Interactive Achievement Award 2000 the game won in the category “Console Game of the Year” and “Console Fighting of the Year”.
From the sites IGN and GameSpot, the game received 10 points out of a possible 10. This is perfect and the game was the second of two games that received 40 points out of 40 from the Japanese game magazine Famitsu (after The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time). As of 2012, the game takes the fifth place among all games and ranks first among the games for Dreamcast, on the site Game Rankings Soulcalibur.
A bit of statistics:
IGN in 2009 called it one of the best and very much appreciated.
In 2007, Game Informer wrote that Soulcalibur is one of the best games for Dreamcast.
Also the game is often called one of the greatest games for all platforms, here is a short list of reviews and ratings:
2005 year. “GameSpot” in the list of “Best Starting Games” put Soulcalibur in 6th place, writing: “this is not only one of the best starting games or one of the best fighting games, but one of the best games in general!”
2011 year “Complex” magazine placed Soulcalibur on the 5th place from the list of “50 best fighting games of all time”.
2010 year. The site UGO.com placed this game in second place in the top 25 game-fighting games of all time.
In 2006, “Electronic Gaming Monthly” put Soulcalibur on the 22nd place in the list of “200 greatest games of his time”.
2006 year. On the IGN website, the game took 6th place from the “Reader’s Choice” list.
In 2003, IGN took 38th place among the games in the “Top 100”. And later, in 2005 she took 43rd place in a similar list.
year 2001. “Game Informer” brought Soulcalibur to the list of “100 best games of all time”, highlighting its 74th position.
And I must say that the character of the girl fighter Ivy, in the latest version of the game from 2013, not only increased the size of the breasts but also got a more erotic costume:
The same thing happens in the rest of the game industry. Illustrators draw similar characters a lot and it seems with pleasure:
You can also recall this scene from Witcher III:
Or this picture from Mass Effect:
And the further, the more similar scenes and camera angles appear in games.
For a long time now lists of such games for various platforms and shops publishing games exclusively with content for adults have appeared.
My attitude to this issue is not at all clear. I like a woman’s body and I’ve heard many times that a beautiful woman’s body is liked by girls too. It is aesthetically pleasing to look at.
But this is sexism and in addition the addition of erotic games has become a kind of cheating and an attempt to compensate for the shortcomings of a good story by the abundance of boobs and special effects.
