1940s 1950s Velvet & Feather Pom Pom Hat with Veil 。This beautiful hat is made of black velvet and is made in an a flat, oblong shape. The inside of the hat is covered in a shiny black material.At the top there is an interesting trim made with little white pearls plus two red feather sprays. There are also two rhinestone little brooches at each side of the hat. The full veil is sewn so it cascades down. It can be worn over the face, or placed on top, as pictured in photo # 12. There is an elastic band attached to the inside of the hat to keep the hat in place. What a beauty!!! The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling & artificial flowers were popular. There is no designer label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age.
